Cumaru, scientifically known as Dipteryx odorata, is a revered plant medicine widely utilised in various forms such as teas and other herbal preparations. Paricá (often spelled Parika) refers to the ash used in this Rapé blend, and it is known for its potent effects on the respiratory system. The use of ashes like Paricá or Xixa is a common practice among Amazonian tribes, as they help to balance and enhance the effects of other ingredients in Rapé. The Katukina tribe, renowned for their mastery in forest medicine, prepares some of the most exquisite and powerful Rapé varieties available. Their Cumaru blend is particularly strong, characterised by a dark, sandy color and a captivating aroma that is both earthy and subtly sweet. Upon application, the blend's intensity is immediately felt, at large doses often inducing purging, sneezing, and tears—hallmarks of a deep cleansing process. This Rapé is crafted with organic Moi Tabaco (Nicotiana rustica), a type of Tabaco highly regarded by indigenous peoples for its spiritual significance and grounding properties. To address this, we meticulously sieve all powders to remove rough bits and particles, resulting in an exceptionally smooth and effective powder at 150-micron fineness.
