Kaxinawá Caneleiro — A Grounding and Purifying Rapé Made with Cenostigma Ash and Dual-Origin Tabaco
Function and Composition
Kaxinawá Caneleiro is a medium-dark grey Rapé crafted with remarkable care and precision. It blends the ashes of Cenostigma macrophyllum—a tree known for its fiery and cleansing qualities—with two rare types of Tabaco: a custom hybrid of Arapiraca and Mói varieties, and a fermented honey-cured rope Tabaco prepared by the Fulni-ô tribe. This unique fusion results in a blend that is both grounding and powerful, combining earth-bound stillness with a sharp energetic lift. Ideal for spiritual cleansing, meditation, and clearing inner noise, this Rapé embodies both intensity and depth.
Energetic and Ceremonial Effects
Upon application, Kaxinawá Caneleiro delivers a potent and fiery burst that quickly clears the mind and opens the breath. The initial effect is sharp and invigorating, with a clearing intensity that may induce mild purging or eye watering in higher doses. As the experience unfolds, it transforms into a deeply stabilising calm—a warm, grounding stillness often compared to the settling of ash after fire. This dual nature makes it especially suited for rituals that involve letting go, purification, and entering states of focused meditation or grounded spiritual alignment.
Caneleiro Ashes — From the Cenostigma Tree
The ashes used in this blend are derived from Cenostigma macrophyllum, a tree sometimes called Caneleiro Branco or Caneleiro Roxo depending on the local variation. The name "Caneleiro" is thought to originate from the Cinnamon-like scent of the leaves and bark, which carry warm, spicy aromatic notes. Among the Kaxinawá, this plant is considered a powerful “plant sibling” to other species like Miconia albicans (Canela de Velho), though it retains its own identity and energetic profile. The ashes are valued for their grounding force, heat, and ability to burn away stagnation. To read a comprehensive article on the Caneleiro ashes, click here.
Custom Hybrid and Fulni-ô Tabaco — Grounded Strength with Deep Tradition
This Rapé features a masterful combination of two exceptional Tabacos:
– A carefully developed hybrid Tabaco created by a family with three generations of expertise in Tabaco cultivation. It blends the sweetness and mildness of Amazonian Mói with the aromatic body of Arapiraca plants, yielding a Tabaco uniquely suited for Rapé preparation. – A dark, fermented rope Tabaco cured underground by the Fulni-ô tribe. Treated with honey and aged in the earth, this Tabaco undergoes a slow fermentation process, resulting in a rich, potent medicine with depth and sweetness. Read the detailed article about Fulni-ô tribe here.
These Tabacos are sun-dried, hand-ground using a wooden pestle, and meticulously sieved before being blended with ashes. The result is a Rapé that offers a profound Tabaco presence without harshness, suitable for both experienced users and those seeking ceremonial focus.
Tribal and Cultural Context
The Kaxinawá (or Huni Kuin) are one of the most well-known tribes of Acre, Brazil, with a deeply rooted tradition of sacred medicine use. Known as the "true people," they have a strong cultural identity based on the ritual use of plants like Nixi Pae (Ayahuasca) and sacred Rapé. Among the Kaxinawá, Rapé is a medicine used not only for healing and cleansing, but also for strengthening one’s thoughts, reconnecting with spiritual guidance, and entering states of deeper clarity. The Caneleiro ash, in particular, is respected for its purifying fire and ability to reset the energetic field. To read a detailed article on the Kaxinawá tribe, click here.
About the Maker — Leonel
This Rapé is prepared by Leonel, a dedicated medicine maker, father of two, and pharmacology graduate. Since age fifteen, Leonel has immersed himself in Indigenous plant traditions, forming deep relationships with the Fulni-ô, Huni Kuin, Yawanawá, and other tribes. He crafts each Rapé by hand using a wooden pilão, singing to the medicine throughout the process. Leonel’s work bridges ancestral wisdom with botanical knowledge, and every batch reflects his vision of healing, reciprocity, and respect for Indigenous lineages. Natural Variation and Quality Standards
Each batch of Kaxinawá Caneleiro Rapé may vary slightly in colour, texture, and scent depending on the season, preparation method, and hands involved. The ashes and Tabacos are sourced from deeply respected forest networks and prepared with traditional techniques.
Breath Practice
To deepen the effects of this Rapé, remain seated after application and gently relax the shoulders. Inhale slowly and deeply through the mouth, hold for a moment, and exhale by softening the belly. Allow gravity to release the breath. Repeat this cycle to support energy circulation and stabilize the experience.
On the Use of Intentions
Caneleiro is not a casual blend—it rewards those who come with purpose. Setting a clear inner focus before use can profoundly amplify its clearing and grounding effects. Whether used in solitude, ritual, or with guidance, this medicine responds best to presence and sincerity. Read more about Intention and Affirmation here.
Setting the Standard for Ultra-Fine Rapé
We take great care to reprocess all received stock to ensure the finest quality powder. Often, Rapé arrives with varying levels of fineness due to the lack of professional sieves used by the tribe. To address this, we meticulously sieve all powders to remove rough bits and particles, resulting in an exceptionally smooth and effective powder at 150-micron fineness. We use laboratory-grade sieves and dehydrating equipment to achieve this quality. This is our standard because it provides the best Rapé experience.
