(Batch #5337). Katukina Menta is a fresh, sharply clearing Rapé prepared within the Katukina community from organic Mói Tabaco, potent Sabiá Corda Tabaco and Tsunu ashes. Natural mint leaves provide herbal freshness, menthol crystals intensify the cooling sensation, and a little mint essential oil completes the aromatic profile. Crisp and activating at first, yet balanced rather than harsh, it settles into a steady, grounding finish. Our relationship with the community began through the late Chief Fernando and now continues with his wife. We currently support the Katukina tribe through substantial donations, and every Katukina variety purchased helps us continue this support. This one comes recommended! Katukina Menta Rapé - Cooling Clarity with a Balanced Tabaco Foundation
Short Description
Katukina Menta is a fresh and sharply clearing Rapé prepared within the Katukina community from organic regional Mói Tabaco, potent Sabiá Corda Tabaco and Tsunu ashes. Natural mint leaves establish its herbal freshness, menthol crystals intensify the cooling sensation, and a small amount of mint essential oil completes the aromatic profile. Crisp and activating at the beginning, yet not excessively minty or harsh, it gradually reveals the steady and grounding character of its well-balanced Tabaco foundation.
A Fresh Katukina Speciality
Our close relationship with the Katukina community began through the late Chief Fernando. Following his passing, we have continued working directly with his wife, maintaining the personal relationship through which these Rapés are selected and brought to us.
This cooperation has allowed us to present a varied selection of preparations from the Katukina community. Some follow familiar traditional formulas, while others demonstrate how experienced makers continue to develop new combinations without losing the recognisable foundation and character of tribal Rapé.
Katukina Menta belongs to this more innovative side of their work. It combines the grounding presence of regional Mói and Sabiá Corda Tabacos with Tsunu ashes and a carefully balanced mint composition, creating a Rapé that feels cooling, sharply clearing and fresh while remaining stable and well rounded.
Organic Regional Mói Tabaco
Mói forms the smoother part of the Tabaco foundation. It gives Katukina Menta body and depth without making the blend unnecessarily heavy or overpowering.
Its comparatively rounded character provides a stable base beneath the sharper cooling ingredients. This allows the mint and menthol to remain clearly noticeable while the Rapé still retains the fuller presence expected from a traditional Tabaco preparation. Sabiá Corda Tabaco
Sabiá Corda contributes the stronger and more potent side of the Tabaco foundation. Its concentrated character adds depth, firmness and grounding force beneath the cooling mint ingredients.
In Katukina Menta, the Sabiá Corda prevents the aromatic composition from making the blend feel too light or superficial. As the first cooling sensation begins to settle, its deeper Tabaco presence becomes increasingly noticeable, carrying the experience towards a steadier and more centred finish.
The combination of smoother Mói and stronger Sabiá Corda creates an effective balance: freshness and sharp clarity at the beginning, supported by sufficient Tabaco strength and substance underneath. To learn more about Sabiá Corda Tabaco, click here.
Tsunu Ashes
Tsunu ashes are among the most widely appreciated traditional ashes used in Rapé. They provide clarity and structure while helping unite the different ingredients into a balanced preparation.
Within Katukina Menta, the Tsunu supports the sharply clearing beginning and helps carry the blend beyond its immediate mint character. Together with the Mói and Sabiá Corda Tabacos, it creates a firm traditional foundation beneath the fresher aromatic ingredients. To learn more about Tsunu ashes, click here.
Three Expressions of Mint
The Katukina makers use three forms of mint, each contributing a different layer to the final preparation.
Natural mint leaves provide the herbal beginning and give the blend a recognisable plant-based freshness. Menthol crystals activate and strengthen the cooling sensation, creating its sharper and more immediate clearing quality. Finally, a small amount of mint essential oil completes and rounds the aromatic profile.
The proportions have been carefully balanced. Too much menthol or mint oil could overpower the Tabaco and produce an unnecessarily burning or excessively freezing sensation. Too little would leave the blend without sufficient freshness and definition.
Katukina Menta sits deliberately between these extremes: distinctly minty and cooling, but neither aggressive nor one-dimensional.
Cooling, Clearing and Grounding
The experience begins with a crisp and distinctly cooling onset that moves quickly through the sinuses. Its mint and menthol character produces a sharp sense of freshness and clearing without dominating the entire experience.
Behind this immediate sensation lies the fuller body of the Mói and Sabiá Corda Tabacos. As the initial cooling intensity settles, the blend becomes steadier and more grounding, allowing the fresh beginning to resolve into a composed and centred finish.
Katukina Menta may particularly appeal to those who appreciate a clearly mint-forward Rapé but do not want the aromatic ingredients to obscure the Tabaco, ashes or deeper character of the preparation.
Supporting the Katukina Tribe
We are currently actively supporting the Katukina tribe through substantial donations. This support contributes directly to the community and strengthens the relationship through which these authentic Katukina preparations are made available.
You can support this effort as well by choosing Katukina Rapé varieties. Each purchase helps us continue our cooperation with the community and maintain the wider financial support we are presently providing.
Natural Batch Variation
Rapé is traditionally prepared by hand from natural materials. Differences in the Tabaco, ashes, mint leaves, climate and preparation may cause each new batch to vary slightly in colour, texture, aroma, cooling intensity and overall effect.
These subtle differences are a natural part of authentic small-batch production and do not indicate a reduction in quality. New batches may vary, but often reveal their own distinct and equally valuable character.
Breath Practice
As you sit with this Rapé, let the breath become your guide. Directly upon application, inhale fully (through the mouth only), and say yes to whatever arises. Immediately let the exhale drop, without force or hesitance. Feel the weight of your body. Hold your spine tall. The heart forward. This is a breath of presence. A breath of remembrance, and gratitude.
On the Use of Intentions
As with all Rapé blends, the use of this medicine is best approached with presence and respect. It is not a consumer product, nor a stimulant. It is a sacred tool, meant for intentional use, whether in solitary practice or guided ritual. Please read our article on the subject of Intention and Affirmation.
Setting the Standard for Ultra Fine Rapé
We take great care to reprocess all received stock to ensure the finest quality powder. Often, Rapé arrives with varying levels of fineness due to the lack of professional sieves used by the tribe. To address this, we meticulously sieve all powders to remove rough bits and particles, resulting in an exceptionally smooth and effective powder at 150-micron fineness. We use laboratory-grade sieves and dehydrating equipment to achieve this quality. This is our standard because it provides the best Rapé experience.
