We are presenting another recipe of Katukina medicine brought to us by the family of chief Fernando Katukina. We have with great joy been deepening our partnership with Fernando assisting him in the opening of his new village. It will be small village with only around ten families in a fresh clearing in the virgin forest. The village will be dedicated to the preservation of Katukina culture and tradition and the healing arts of his people. They will be open to receive all who wants to know their culture or is in search of healing in the traditions of the forest.  To find out more about our collaboration go here.

This Rapé was made with the seeds and ashes of the Mugulun tree as they call it. It is a local sub species of the Mulungu or Coral Tree. We decided to keep their pronunciation of the name. The ashes were made with the bark of the tree and they added the powdered seeds for its medicinal properties. They don’t use it for sleep problems like Mulungu is used in other regions of the country where it is used for its relaxing effects. Normally it is used for sleep disorders and anti stress.  The Katukina say it is anti-inflammatory and use it for that purpose also in other preparations like teas. They say it helps for strong and chronic headaches and they use the medicine when people have strokes.  In Rapé they say it helps them when they have rhinitis and those kind of irritations of the mucus membrane.

This Rapè is a sandy grey colour.  It is a great choice for a beginner or a more experienced user that is looking for something more relaxing than intense. It gently tunes one into a more receptive state and doesn't overwhelm one physically leaving the user capable of movement and activity.  A great Rapè to use before conversing with others as it opens the heart and clears the mind.

This is an extremely fine and dry powder. It takes great effort to produce such a fine powder at a 150 micron fineness. This is our standard because this provides the best Rapé experience. All our Rapé is processed to a high standard and consistent fineness and dryness, using laboratory grade sieves and dehydrating equipment, before packaging.

Other names: Mulungu, Coral Tree, Erythrina mulungu

Katukina or Catuquina, Katokina, Katukena, Katukino are generic terms that are attributed to five linguistically distinct but geographically proximate indigenous groups that live in southwestern Brazil at the border of the Amazonas and Acre. The Katukina are a tribe that is very connected to the usage of sacred plants. They consider themselves as the first tribe to receive the Kambo medicine straight from the frog. They still carry a vast knowledge about plants and the spirit of the world. Their Rapé is strong and deep, and it carries the wild and powerful spirit of the jungle.
