Kaxinawa Uricuri

Bottle, 25 Ml, 15 Gr from Brazil (SKU 4896)

(Batch #8145). Kaxinawá Uricuri is a traditional Huni Kuin Rapé prepared from just two ingredients: smooth Mói Tabaco and the ashes of the Uricuri palm. Made by a Huni Kuin elder whose family has preserved the art of Rapé preparation for generations along the Tarauacá River in Acre, this deceptively simple blend offers remarkable depth and character. Known as Tashka ("spear"), the Uricuri palm has provided material for hunting spears and arrows since ancient times, and its ashes have been used in Huni Kuin Rapés since mythological times. The result is a dark, grounding, and distinctive Rapé that balances the gentle warmth of Mói with the direct, steady presence of Uricuri. More information can be found below.

Kaxinawá Uricuri - The Spear of the Forest - A Traditional Huni Kuin Rapé of Remarkable Simplicity

This Huni Kuin Rapé is prepared from only two ingredients: Mói Tabaco and the ashes of the Uricuri palm. Simplicity, however, should not be mistaken for gentleness. The result is a remarkably dark, forceful, and distinctive Rapé whose character reflects generations of indigenous craftsmanship and an intimate understanding of the Amazon forest.

Prepared by a member of the Huni Kuin (Kaxinawá) people living along the Tarauacá River in Acre, Brazil, this Rapé follows a family tradition passed down from father to son over many generations. The knowledge of preparing Rapé is regarded as both a practical skill and a cultural inheritance, preserving the wisdom of ancestors through each carefully crafted batch.

Function and Composition

Kaxinawá Uricuri demonstrates that exceptional Rapé does not require a long list of ingredients. Built entirely upon finely powdered Mói Tabaco and the ashes of the Uricuri palm, it is a study in balance and restraint.

The Huni Kuin selected Mói Tabaco for its naturally smooth, rounded, and harmonising character. Unlike more aggressive Tabaco varieties, Mói provides an elegant foundation that allows the remarkable personality of the Uricuri ashes to unfold without distraction. The result is a Rapé that feels complete despite its deceptively simple composition, balancing refinement with unmistakable indigenous character.

The Uricuri Palm – Tashka, the Spear

Among the Huni Kuin, the Uricuri palm is known as Tashka, meaning spear, a name recognised by many indigenous peoples throughout the Acre region. For countless generations, this resilient palm has provided the material for hunting spears and arrows, essential tools not only for survival, but also for protecting family, community, and tradition.

Long before metal reached the forest, Tashka represented precision, purpose, and self-reliance. It is perhaps no coincidence that the ashes of this remarkable palm also became part of Huni Kuin Rapé. According to tribal tradition, the ashes of Uricuri have accompanied their sacred snuffs since mythological times, carrying not only the physical qualities of the palm, but also the symbolic essence of the spear itself: directness, focus, and unwavering intention.

Energetic and Ceremonial Character

The resulting Rapé is notably dark in both colour and character. Its deep brown appearance reflects a generous proportion of Mói Tabaco and a comparatively modest amount of ashes. This composition gives the blend a remarkably smooth and approachable opening. Rather than the sharp, penetrating onset often associated with ash-rich Rapés, the first impression is warm, rounded, and distinctly Tabaco-driven.

After a few moments, a pleasant tingling sensation and a gentle glow begin to develop through the sinuses and forehead before gradually settling into a deeper connection with the Tabaco itself. Unlike Rapés that concentrate their effects primarily in the head, Kaxinawá Uricuri naturally guides the experience into the body, creating a calm, grounded, and embodied state. The smooth warmth of the Mói Tabaco harmonises beautifully with the darker, more assertive character of the Uricuri ashes, producing a medicine that feels purposeful, balanced, and quietly powerful. It calms the senses without becoming overwhelming, making it equally suited to quiet contemplation and ceremonial practice.

In larger applications, the rich Tabaco foundation becomes increasingly apparent. The experience may deepen into a profound sense of bodily presence and stillness, accompanied by the pleasant warmth, tingling, and characteristic heaviness that many practitioners associate with a strong Tabaco medicine. Despite containing only two ingredients, Kaxinawá Uricuri possesses remarkable depth, demonstrating that the quality of a Rapé is not determined by the number of plants it contains, but by the understanding with which they are selected and prepared.

The Huni Kuin Tradition

The Huni Kuin, also known as the Kaxinawá, are among the best-known indigenous peoples of the western Amazon. Living throughout the forests of Acre and neighbouring regions, they maintain a rich ceremonial tradition in which Rapé, Ayahuasca, Kampô, and sacred songs continue to play an important role in preserving cultural identity and spiritual knowledge.

Within Huni Kuin communities, Rapé is regarded as far more than a preparation of powdered Tabaco and ashes. It serves as a companion for prayer, meditation, healing, hunting, and ceremonial work, helping to cultivate presence, discipline, and connection with the wisdom of the forest. The preparation of Rapé remains a respected tradition, often preserved within families and passed from one generation to the next. To read our detailed article on the Kaxinawá, click here.

Mói Tabaco

Tabaco de Mói is widely appreciated for its smooth, rounded, and naturally harmonious character. Traditionally cultivated in Acre and carefully fermented into dense ropes, it develops a rich aroma with subtle earthy sweetness that distinguishes it from stronger and more assertive Tabaco varieties.

Within this blend, Mói provides an elegant and balanced foundation, allowing the distinctive qualities of the Uricuri ashes to remain clearly expressed while contributing warmth, depth, and refinement to the overall experience. To read our detailed article on Mói Tabaco, click here.

Natural Variation

Like all authentic tribal Rapés, every batch reflects the season, the harvest, and the individual who prepares it. Minor variations in colour, aroma, texture, and intensity are therefore a natural expression of its traditional production rather than a sign of inconsistency. These subtle differences are part of the living character of indigenous Rapé and contribute to the uniqueness of every preparation.

Breath Practice

For best results, remain seated and grounded after application. Breathe slowly through the mouth, allowing the experience to settle naturally. Hold each breath briefly before exhaling gently, relaxing the abdomen and allowing the breath to leave completely. Repeating this calm rhythm several times often supports a deeper sense of presence and integration.

On the Use of Affirmation

Kaxinawá Uricuri responds well to quiet attention rather than expectation. Whether used before meditation, prayer, or moments of personal reflection, allow the breath to carry your intention while remaining open to the experience itself. Read more about affirmations here.

Setting the Standard for Ultra Fine Rapé

We carefully reprocess every batch we receive to achieve the highest possible powder quality. Because professional sieving equipment is rarely available in remote indigenous communities, all Rapé is meticulously refined using laboratory-grade 150-micron sieves to remove coarse particles and fibrous material. Combined with careful dehydration, this produces an exceptionally smooth and comfortable Rapé while preserving the character of the original tribal preparation.
