Rapé made with Mulaterio ashes exceed most other Rapé's in strength and intensity. We have been working with one of our Rapé providers for more than 6 years, and this new Rapé comes from his student. This Rapé can be considered a non tribal blend yet it is made with ingredients obtained from the Katukina people. The techniques to make this Rapé remain traditional. A large mortar and pestle is used to manually pound the ingredients into a fine dust. The effect is comparable with the very popular Yawanawa Mulateiro, yet a slightly sweeter Tabaco variation is used.

It is a very fine powder that has a light brown appearance. It provides a sharp initial sensation that has a tendency to immediately make the eyes water. The mind is released from thoughts and one is brought into a peaceful space with a high level of focus. Mulaterio ashes (Calycophyllum spruceanum) are used to support balance and equilibrium of mind and body. The ash of the cask of the Mulateiro tree is a powerful ash used to firm spiritual works.

This is an extremely fine and dry powder. It takes great effort to produce such a fine powder at a 150 micron fineness. This is our standard because this provides the best Rapé experience. All our Rapé is processed to a high standard and consistent fineness and dryness, using laboratory grade sieves and dehydrating equipment, before packaging.

A wonderful and detailed article about the Katukina and our connection with them can be found here.

Other names: Mulateiro, Capirona, Pau Mulata

Katukina or Catuquina, Katokina, Katukena, Katukino are generic terms that are attributed to five linguistically distinct but geographically proximate indigenous groups that live in southwestern Brazil at the border of the Amazonas and Acre. The Katukina are a tribe that is very connected to the usage of sacred plants. They consider themselves as the first tribe to receive the Kambo medicine straight from the frog. They still carry a vast knowledge about plants and the spirit of the world. Their Rapé is strong and deep, and it carries the wild and powerful spirit of the jungle.

This mixture contains Mulaterio ashes (Calycophyllum spruceanum). Mulateiro belongs to the Rubiaceae family and is a canopy tree of 30 meter height. Interestingly its bark can shed and regenerate on a yearly basis, enabling a sustainable harvest. The tree is known as Mulateiro or Pau-Mulato in Brazil, but it has the name Capirona in Peru. It has a long tradition in the indigenous Amazonian culture. It is often added to Ayahuasca.
