Handcrafted Peruvian Kuripe – Sacred Woods and Bone, & Yagé Energy
These beautifully handcrafted Kuripes, made in Peru, are carved from sacred woods, each carrying its own spiritual significance and energy. These Kuripes seamlessly blend ancestral wisdom with artisanal craftsmanship, making them powerful tools for Rapé application.
Each piece is decorated with a small slice of the Yagé vine or a vibrant Chrysocolla (Turquoise) stone, adding an element of sacred plant energy and natural beauty. The Yagé vine, traditionally used in Ayahuasca ceremonies, is believed to enhance spiritual connection and insight, while Chrysocolla is known for its calming and harmonising qualities. The decorative elements are embedded in epoxy resin, offering durability while preserving the natural essence and texture of the materials.
Designed with a medium-diameter channel, this Kuripe allows for a moderately strong blow, suitable for both beginners and experienced users. The adjustable waxed cord, adorned with wooden beads, adds practicality and simple aesthetic charm, allowing the Kuripe to be carried or stored with ease. Its ergonomic form ensures a comfortable grip, making it a reliable and visually striking companion to personal or ceremonial Rapé practice.
As a handmade item, each Kuripe is unique, shaped by natural variations in wood grain, colour, and character. Whether used for ceremony, meditation, grounding, or cleansing, this Kuripe reflects the harmony of tradition, craft, and the living energy of sacred materials.
Materials
Chonta
Chonta, also known as Palm Heart wood (Bactris gasipaes), is a slow-growing Amazonian palm revered by many tribes for its strength and protective nature. It is one of the hardest woods in the rainforest—dense, dark, and naturally fortified. Its deep brown-to-black colour and fine, compact grain give Chonta a powerful, grounding presence. Traditionally associated with warriors and ceremonial tools, it carries the energy of stability, resilience, and spiritual defence.
Palo Santo
Palo Santo, the “Holy Wood” (Bursera graveolens), is characterised by its aromatic resin and warm honey-gold tones. Medium-light in hardness, it has a silky grain and distinctive fragrance even in solid form. Known for its cleansing, harmonising, and uplifting qualities, Palo Santo is used to clear energy, centre the mind, and support peaceful focus. The oldest recorded name of the wood is 'Sisaya.' This name appears to have roots in Ecuadorian and indigenous South American terminology, especially among communities in Ecuador and Peru, where Palo Santo, scientifically known as Bursera graveolens, holds a profound cultural and spiritual legacy. A Kuripe made from this wood carries a gentle, calming essence infused with centuries of ritual use across the Andes and Amazon. To read more about the beautiful Palo Santo wood, click here.
Palo Sangre / Bloodwood
Palo Sangre—commonly called Bloodwood (often Brosimum rubescens or Pterocarpus spp.) stands out for its vivid reddish tone, which deepens with time and handling. It is a very hard, heavy wood with a tight grain and natural durability. Symbolically, its red colour links it to vitality, grounding, and the life force. It is favoured for tools that require both strength and refined craftsmanship, carrying a warm, stabilising energy during Rapé application.
Palo Duro
“Palo Duro” refers to a category of exceptionally hard tropical woods known for their robustness and longevity. (various dense hardwoods, typically Hymenaea, Prosopis, or Tabebuia species). These woods tend to be dark brown to deep golden, with a strong, fibrous grain and impressive structural density. In traditional craft, Palo Duro is chosen for objects that must withstand long-term use. Its energetic signature is one of firmness, endurance, and unwavering grounding—ideal for a Kuripe intended for steady, disciplined practice.
Sheep’s Bone
Sheep’s bone gives a Kuripe a distinctly ancestral and earthy character. Naturally ivory-white to cream in colour, bone can be polished to a smooth, soft sheen. It is lightweight but strong, and has been used traditionally across many cultures for tools, adornments, and ceremonial objects. Bone expresses a connection to the animal world, carrying a quiet, ancient presence that supports introspection, clarity, and humility during use.
