Hand-Carved Owl Kuripe – Suar Wood

This unique Kuripe features a finely carved owl perched atop the V-junction of the pipe, its strong claws gripping the end of the stem. When resting on its side, the owl appears upright and watchful. During use, as the Kuripe is brought to the face, the owl inverts—symbolically entering the inner space of the user, observing from within.

Handmade by our skilled friend in Bali, this Kuripe is carved from Suar wood (Samanea saman), also known as Rain Tree wood or South American Walnut. Suar is valued for its crisscross interlocking grain, which resists cracking and movement. It is moderately heavy and extremely strong, with a smooth finish and a sturdy, grounded presence. The natural color of the wood features light and brown hues with beautifully flowing patterns, making each piece visually distinct.

The Kuripe fits comfortably in the hand and suits most face shapes and nose sizes. It features a medium channel that delivers a smooth and balanced application of Rapé. As each Kuripe is individually handmade, no two are identical. Variations in carving detail, wood tone, and grain ensure every piece is one of a kind. The Kuripe you receive will closely resemble the one pictured, while carrying its own unique character.
