Handcrafted Kuntanawa Kuripe – Art, Ceremony & Tradition
This exquisitely handcrafted Kuripe is a fusion of indigenous artistry and ceremonial function, made with bamboo and high-quality epoxy resin. Decorated with shells, semi-precious stones, and natural seeds, each piece carries a distinct earthy aesthetic, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of its makers. The resin is skillfully blended into a marbled effect, creating an elegant interplay of colors, textures, and patterns, further enhanced with ornamental engravings inspired by Amazonian motifs. These Kuripes are not just tools—they are expressions of tradition and devotion to the sacred plant medicine path.
Functionally, this Kuripe is designed for powerful yet controlled Rapé application. The wide-diameter channels ensure a strong and direct airflow, allowing the medicine to penetrate deeply into the sinuses, making it ideal for both experienced users and those seeking an intensified ceremonial experience. The bamboo construction gives it a lightweight yet sturdy feel, ensuring durability and ease of use. Each piece is crafted with care and precision, making it a highly effective and visually striking addition to any practitioner’s collection.
These Kuripes are made by the Kuntanawa people at the Tete Pawã Arts and Medicines workshop, located on the upper Juruá River in the municipality of Marechal Thaumaturgo, near the Peruvian border. Tete Pawã is the indigenous name for the Harpia Eagle, also known as the Royal Hawk (Gavião Real) in Portuguese. This majestic and sacred bird is one of the most revered animals in the region, symbolizing wisdom, spiritual vision, and connection to higher realms. The Tete Pawã project, envisioned by Rudy and his family, brings together skilled artisans and spiritual practitioners dedicated to preserving their ancestral knowledge and the sacred medicine traditions of the forest.
At Katukina, we proudly support the Kuntanawa community, providing tools, resources, and a global platform to share their arts, crafts, and plant medicines. Every purchase helps sustain their traditional ways of life, as the funds circulate through the community, supporting not only the artisans but also those involved in harvesting raw materials, preparing Rapé ashes, and maintaining the sacred lineage of Amazonian medicine.
