Cacao (Theobroma cacao) is a tree we all know very well, it spread in ancient times all over South and Central America and was even used as a currency for its high value to the different peoples of the Southern Americas. Cacao comes originally from the Amazon forest. Here it grows close to the rivers in the humid lowlands that flood in the rainy season.

Our Cacao (or as in Brazil, Cacau) ashes are burned from the native Cacao tree of the region, the original wild Cacao. The Huni Kuin or Kaxinawa have used cacao bark traditionally to burn ashes for Rapé production. Because of the type of rough bark and where it grows close to the rivers it has to be cleaned very well before burning to make a nice and clean ash what makes it more laborious. Also, Cacao trees are relatively small in the Amazon, not like for instance a Tsunu or Cumaru tree.

Our ashes are burned close to the town of Tarauacá by a local Huni Kuin or Kaxinawá community who burn the ashes with care in the traditional way.

This exquisite ingredient is a crucial element of a powerful and balanced blend and should not be omitted in your own favourite rapé composition. Ashes mix excellently with any of the Tabaco powders. Furthermore, blending Tabaco with ashes increases the strength and absorption, making it exquisitely strong.

This is an extremely fine powder. It takes great effort to produce such a fine powder at a 150 micron fineness. This is our standard. All of our products we process to a high standard and consistent fineness, using laboratory grade sieves.

A detailed description on how to blend your own Rapé can be found here.
