Amburana Bark (Imburana / Emburana, Amburana cearensis, syn. Torresea cearensis)
Amburana, also known as Imburana or Emburana, is revered across Brazil for its fragrance, warmth, and ceremonial presence. The bark, seeds, and wood of this tree — sometimes called Cumaru de Cheiro (“Scented Cumaru”) — are used in Rapé, incense, teas, baths, and household remedies. Unlike the denser ashes of Dipteryx odorata (True Cumaru), Amburana offers a lighter, spiced profile that softens and balances.
We offer whole large bark pieces, cut & sifted bark, and fine powder, each suited to different uses
- Teas and Decoctions – 25 g of bark simmered in 1 liter of water for 15–20 minutes with the lid closed, poured off and re-used until color and aroma fade. Alternatively, two tablespoons of bark (or seeds) simmered for 10 minutes creates a fragrant infusion of almond, vanilla, and nutmeg tones.
- Rapé and Blends – Powdered bark or seeds may be incorporated into Rapé, where Amburana’s coumarin-rich sweetness calms, balances, and opens the heart.
- Incense and Baths – Whole pieces may be burned or infused into baths for their protective, cleansing qualities.
Amburana bark is both a ceremonial ally and a household companion: protective, aromatic, and harmonizing. To read the full in-depth article on Amburana and its ceremonial uses and preparation methods, click here.
