Inanna – Elixir of the Night Queen
Resinous Ritual Essence Inspired by the Sumerian Goddess of Sensuality and Sacred Power
This potent aromatic elixir was originally formulated as a rich blend of incense resins and essential oils, intended for use in ceremonial and ritual settings. It was created with care and precision for mystical societies, witches’ circles, and ceremonial gatherings that seek to invoke altered states, deepen sensual presence, and honor the ancient feminine. It is said to open veiled portals to realms of heightened sensuality, profound interconnectedness, and luminous awareness—spaces where body, spirit, and ancestral memory intertwine in sacred communion.
At the core of this preparation lies Inanna, the enigmatic and sovereign goddess of the ancient Sumerians, revered as Queen of Heaven and Earth, goddess of love, fertility, eroticism, war, and the underworld. Her myth is one of sacred descent and rebirth—a journey into the deep, where she confronts death, surrenders her symbols of power, and rises transformed.
Inanna is one of the oldest recorded goddesses in human history, predating the pantheons of Greece and Rome. In clay tablets dated over 4,000 years ago, she is described in hymns as “raging storm,” “bringer of abundance,” and “giver of ecstasy.” Her rituals were often nocturnal, ecstatic, and sensual—an affirmation of both life’s fertility and death’s necessity. This blend is designed as an olfactory homage to her archetypal force.
Ingredients Aligned with the Inanna Archetype
This blend combines rare and powerful ingredients selected for their ritual significance and sensual resonance:
- Belladonna alkaloids (from sacred Nightshade plants) – associated with trance states, dreamwork, and the boundary between life and death
- Styrax & Benzoin – resinous, sweet, and warm; traditionally used to invoke erotic or protective energies
- Copal (Copaifera) – used in Mesoamerican ritual to purify and invite ancestral presence
- Oxypetalum florals – soft, intoxicating florals with an ethereal and otherworldly vibration
Note: While ancient recipes included Opium, this version consciously omits it. The spirit of the formula remains—dark, seductive, and otherworldly.
The Aroma
The fragrance is overwhelmingly pleasant—dark red velvet warmed by skin, the flicker of candlelight, the lingering hush of incense in ancient sanctuaries. It opens along an ambiguous current of sensuality, not bound to masculine or feminine, but resonant with all who encounter it. A narcotic sweetness, both comforting and disarming, weaves itself into the air like a ritual remembered, saturating space and skin with an aura of mystery and reverence. It resembles no known perfume, yet stirs something intimate and ancestral, as if drawn from dreams, ceremonies, or the breath of forgotten gods.
As a Perfume
When worn on the skin, brushed through the hair, or absorbed into fabric, this elixir becomes a living scent talisman—intimate, magnetic, and shifting with one’s warmth and movement. Its genderless nature allows it to echo differently on every wearer, yet it consistently evokes presence, intrigue, and allure. Entirely unique and unmistakable, it does not decorate but inhabits, resonating like resin smoke in sacred space, or the scent of ancient wood polished by prayer. It is a fragrance of memory and invocation, not easily forgotten.
Texture & Handling
The liquid is tacky (sticky) upon application. Yet as it contains 100% high-grade perfumery alcohol, it evaporates quickly, leaving only a dry, resinous finish on the skin or surface. The initial smell of alcohol dissipates almost instantly, allowing the deeper notes to unfold. To preserve the intensity and balance of the blend, keep the bottle tightly closed immediately after use to avoid premature evaporation.
Modes of Use
- Charcoal Activation: Drop directly onto glowing charcoal for an immediate aromatic flash that opens the senses and space.
- Body Ritual: A drop on the wrist or combed through hair anoints the wearer in sacred scent. Sticky at first, but drying with a gentle resinous feel.
- Sauna Alchemy: Add 10 drops to a spoonful of water and pour over hot stones, or dilute 5–10 ml in 500 ml of water and shake before each use. The rising steam evokes sensual mystery and archetypal depth.
- Spray Perfume (Optional): To wear as a mist, dilute in 80% perfumery alcohol and 20% water and transfer to a fine spray bottle. (The liquid may stain light fabrics or leave a sticky residue. Best used on skin or dark clothing only.)
- Ananura Spray: To create a space mist, dilute 1 ml in 50–100 ml of water. Shake very well before each use. The liquid disperses into the water like a soft pink cloud and stays in suspension for a time. Regular shaking is advised. For greater solubility and a clearer spray, add a small amount of alcohol.
- Aromatherapy & Diffusers: Add a few drops to an aroma diffuser or a candle bowl with water to infuse your space with warmth and depth.
- Scented Objects: Drop a few drops onto a piece of cloth, cotton ball, scent stone, or even the corner of a pillow. The aroma will continue to release gently for several days, providing a background of sacred, enveloping warmth.
- Aromatherapy Pendant: A few drops inside a pendant will allow the scent to unfold close to the heart throughout the day. Available here: Aromatherapy Pendants
