Flowers can be white to lilac and are in small clusters. Thyme is highly aromatic with a hint of clove and mint fragrance. The main chemical component of Thyme essential oil is thymol. Thymol has a monoterpene backbone and is part of the phenols functional group.

Thyme essential oil should be diluted with a carrier oil before application. Thyme essential oil is commonly used to add spice and flavour to a variety of meals and can also be taken internally. Thyme essential oil also has the ability to naturally repel insects.
