Thyme Essential Oil has a fresh, herbaceous aroma to it. A wonderful evergreen bush that has a plephora of uses ranging from culinary, shamanic and ornamental. A refreshing scent familiar and ancient used by many over centuries. Traditionally burnt as incense, used in the bath or made into a drink and has many uses in folklore. The smell of Thyme originally meant that one was stylish, well groomed, poised, and otherwise attractive. It was used to dispel melancholy, hopelessness and other mellow but negative vibrations, especially after a family tragedy or during a long sickness. Thyme is excellent in ritual baths and cleansing for early spring festivals when one seek’s to leave the old behind and begin anew.

Thyme is a low growing (6-12 inches tall) to almost prostrate, wiry stemmed perennial. Stems are stiff and woody and leaves are small, oval and gray-green in color. Flowers can be white to lilac and are in small clusters. Thyme is highly aromatic with a hint of clove and mint fragrance. The main chemical component of Thyme essential oil is thymol. Thymol has a monoterpene backbone and is part of the phenols functional group.

Thyme essential oil should be diluted with a carrier oil before application. Thyme essential oil is commonly used to add spice and flavour to a variety of meals and can also be taken internally. Thyme essential oil also has the ability to naturally repel insects.
